Dear friend,
Human life is priceless.
Looking at my friend’s missed call my heart rate increased. I called her over and over, until a text came through. She had made an attempt on her life. I was anxious knowing her battle with suicidal ideation was far from over, but incredibly grateful that she was still here to fight another day.
While I was in college, I saw a lot of people struggle with mental health. Not only after the pandemic, but before the pandemic too. As midterms near stress rises, and as winter approaches battles with seasonal depression begin, and for some folks battles with their mental health was a year round struggle.
With this in mind, I want to send a reminder to everyone…particularly to students.
Your life matters. Because human life is so precious, not a letter grade on an assignment, the amount of money in your bank account, or the number of friends you have could possibly dictate your worth. You are beyond valuable.
I love you and I believe in you. I believe in your strength to keep moving forward every morning you wake up. I believe in your endurance. For every completed assignment, no matter how consistent the good or bad grades, you continue to click submit and put your best foot forward.
Your grades, choices and relationship status do not change your worth. Society may say your worth changes, Christian culture may say your worth changes, but to God you are still so loved and so valuable. For every money issue, every fight with your family, every argument with your significant other, every breakdown in your room or on the car ride home, you never lose your worth.
Your life is priceless. You are so precious you are beyond price. You are irreplaceable. Please remember this on the days people make you feel less than, on the days you are mentally beating yourself up, during the times nothing seems to go right. Keep moving forward, because you can. Because your dreams are worth chasing.
You future teachers, plumbers, lawyers, artists, event planners, nurses, engineers, publishers, business owners, translators, and many more. You can do this.
Call someone you love. Head to the counseling office on campus. Head to the gym and lose yourself in the workout. Pick up your journal and write it out. But do not give up on yourself. Do not give up on your life.
With Love,
Mo
